Ellen Johnson Sirleaf joins Bloomberg New Economy Forum’s Advisory Board

Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has been appointed to join the Bloomberg New Economy Forum’s Advisory Board. Launched in 2018, the Forum is a global convening platform that gathers public- and private-sector leaders worldwide to address the disruptions resulting from fast-pacing transitions in the economy.

The Bloomberg New Economy Forum’s Advisory Board is led by Dr. Henry A. Kissinger as Honorary Chair and Henry M. Paulson, Jr. as Chair. Over 50 of the world’s most influential government and business leaders are currently members and participants of the forum, including Madam Sirleaf and EJS Center Board Member Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

The 2019 forum, held in Beijing, welcomed more than 500 public- and private-sector leaders from 45 countries. For 2020, the Bloomberg New Economy Forum announced it will hold a virtual, global convening, which will take place from 16-19 November. The 2020 forum is aimed at offering “a unique opportunity to identify the challenges and define the solutions for ‘Our New Economy’: a new economic agenda that puts the world’s most vulnerable people first.”

In announcing the plans for the 2020 Forum, Bloomberg L.P. and Bloomberg Philanthropies Founder and Three-Term Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg said the economic crisis generated by the COVID-19 pandemic calls for quick and coordinated action from leaders across the globe:

“If we act wisely, our response to this crisis can also help us address many of the other major challenges facing our world – from climate change and pollution to racial inequity and injustice. The more we work together, the stronger we’ll emerge from the pandemic and the brighter the future will be – and that’s what the New Economy Forum is all about.”
