Before the official launch of the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development, former president Sirleaf joined T-Max Jlateh on Sky FM Liberia’s morning talk show, 50-50. During the interview, she highlighted the barriers that prevent women in Africa from achieving parity in public leadership, noting “women are making it, but not enough”.
She discussed the Center’s work to advance women’s public leadership across Africa and noted the important role that male allies play in achieving parity.
She stressed that the goal of the Center’s flagship Amujae Initiative is to “encourage women to see they can achieve a whole lot…rise up, be who they want to be,” and explained how it would provide a forum for women to network and boost their personal profiles.
