Haja Binta Jalloh is a climate, sustainability, and ESG leader with over a decade of experience advancing city-led climate resilience, nature-based solutions, carbon markets, and community-centred development in African contexts. She currently serves as ESG Marketing & Partner Engagement Manager for the #FreetownTheTreeTown Programme at the Mayor’s Office of Freetown, Sierra Leone’s flagship urban reforestation and climate-adaptation initiative.
In this role, Binta leads ESG strategy, carbon-market engagement, and investor partnerships for one of Africa’s most ambitious city-led nature-based solutions programmes, encompassing large-scale urban tree planting and mangrove restoration. Her work includes advancing Verra-readiness, supporting Project Design Document (PDD) development, coordinating FPIC-based stakeholder consultations, and shaping equitable benefit-sharing and governance frameworks that ensure communities meaningfully benefit from climate finance.
Beyond carbon markets, Binta plays a key role in strengthening urban water security and climate resilience under Freetown’s Transform Freetown – Transforming Lives agenda. She supports the design and implementation of inclusive, community-managed water systems, rainwater harvesting initiatives, and citywide WASH assessments, with a strong focus on women’s leadership, data-driven decision-making, and long-term sustainability.
Binta holds a Master of Science in Sustainable Development (Hons) from University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, where her research focused on community engagement and digital monitoring in urban tree-planting as a climate-adaptation strategy in Freetown. She also holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Financial Services from the University of Sierra Leone, complementing her applied work at the intersection of climate action, governance, and community-centred development.
She is a founding member of the Association of Carbon Conservation and Reforestation (ACCR) in Sierra Leone and is actively engaged in African and global climate-action networks, advocating for climate justice, community-led solutions, and African leadership in climate finance and decision-making.
