In the latest issue of African Pathways Magazine, Amujae Leader and CEO of the Rwanda Development Board Clare Akamanzi wrote about Rwanda’s work to become a top destination for innovation and business.

In the article, titled “Embracing Change and Innovation,” Ms. Akamanzi reflected on the country’s economic environment:

“Rwanda is already one of the most business-friendly places in the world. In the most recent World Bank Ease of Doing Business report, it ranked 29th among countries worldwide, the only low-income country in the top 50.”

Ms. Akamanzi pointed to companies of all sizes—from major blue-chip companies to startups—that have chosen Rwanda as their partner in innovation and change. She also highlighted how Rwanda is working to help innovative technologies developed outside Africa to adapt to the continent’s socioeconomic conditions.

She noted the importance of nurturing the next generation of tech talent across the continent, explaining how Kigali Innovation City, the government’s flagship program to create a hi-tech ecosystem, “offers a comprehensive pool of pan-African talent supplied by world-class institutions of higher learning.”

To conclude, Ms. Akamanzi emphasized the importance of innovation for Africa as a whole:

“Innovation is the key to improving Africa’s standard of living. Rwanda is already witnessing good results, and there are reasons to be confident that the future is even brighter, not only for the country but for the entire continent.”
